Penny 18 Months

Penny turned 18 months a few weeks ago, and she is at such a fun age. It seems like her vocabulary is exploding all of a sudden. She says "doggie (and "woof woof")", "daddy", "Lyla", "diaper", "book "("buuhh"), "hungry", "bite", "more", "please" (peeesse!), "bye-bye", "goodbye", "nigh-night", "Reggie", "Debbie", "Mimi", "papa", "Hi", "Laura" "baby" (beybey),

I can tell she is understanding a lot of what I say. She will follow my instructions if I tell her to go get a book or something. She also LOVES to read. She also became interested in the TV lately, and will grab a remote and point aggressively at the tv.

She tottles around and is still chubby and a little bowlegged. She loves shoes and when she finds one, sits down, grabs her chubby little foot in one hand and the shoe in the other and tries to stuff her foot in the shoe. It's the best when she grabs a doll's shoe or something and tries to fit her foot in that :).

She really loves animals. She gets so excited when she sees a dog, and the first thing she does when she goes to Mimi and Papa's house is ask for Reggie.

This girl LOVES to color. She gets so excited when she finds a marker/crayon/pencil and immediately tries to find something to draw on. Often this ends up being her chubby little legs.

She is into lots of mischief these days...my makeup might be her number one guilty pleasure. If I let my guard down, she is into into it. She has opened mascara and lip gloss numerous times (including lots of traces on her face and the carpet), and destroyed an entire thing of blush the other day.

She's never met a stuffed animal she didn't like. Whenever she sees one (at home, at the store, wherever), she points her little finger and says "bee bee". Then if you hand it to her, she pulls it in for a big hug/cuddle.

She is getting a little more separation anxiety, but she is still a little charmer. She loves to wander from person to person at church and talk to people. We went to a crowded park the other day, and she was going from group to group, mostly stealing their food. One group had an opened bag of doritos, and she just keep sticking her hand in and helping herself. She is definitely a much better eater than Lyla ever was, and it shows.

We are totally enamored with this little one!

Lyla Jean

Update on Lyla, started 8/2016

I don't write enough about Lyla on here anymore. Lyla is a super sweet big sis to Penny. She really hasn't shown much jealousy at all since Penny was born, and usually tries to get Penny included in our activities. She is a very loving little girl, and will often out of the blue ask for our attention, followed simply by "I love you Mom". I always tell her, "thanks for being my girl", and lately she's been saying back "thanks for being MY girl", with a big sweet grin on her face.

She is so friendly and loves to meet new people. She is often asking people "What's your name?" and then tells them "I'm Lyla and this is my mommy Allison and my baby's name is Penny". She loves to introduce us all.

"I'm telling the truth, not July"--after catching her with chocolate all over her face, and she denied eating the peanut butter cups.

Lyla asking about getting resurrected. "Will it hurt when I get the nails in my hands and my feet?"

"Mom, there's a few things I need to talk to you about... Number 1. How did Penny get out of you when she was in your tummy?"

At conference, we told her that President Monson was going to speak and she asked, "But when is Joseph Smith going to talk?" "How about Nephi?"

I told her that there was a visitor who was coming to her preschool (Santa). I told her it was an old man and she said, "Oh, is it Joseph Smith?!"

"Mom, there's a few things I need to talk to you about... Number 1. How did Penny get out of you when she was in your tummy...?"

I asked Lyla if she knew what an apostle was, and she started explaining something to me about clay and I realized she was describing "a fossil", which she had learned about in preschool the previous week.

A few pics below of Lyla's 3 year old pics that Laura took. I love them so much!

Halloween 2015

I loved Halloween this year. Lyla's birthday the day before was ok, but Halloween turned out to be the stuff that parenting dreams are made of! Lyla dressed up as Dorothy and was so cute in her little costume. She loved going house to house, and was so polite, saying "thank you" at every door (although, the longer the night went on, the greedier she seemed to get!). She was also telling everyone "I'm Dorothy".

Trick or treating was so much fun, but what may have been even better was when we came back home and Lyla started handing out candy to the trick or treaters before she went to bed. She would spring up everytime she heard a knock to answer the door. Then she would say the cutest things like "One for you, one for you", and "Happy Halloween!" when the trick or treaters would leave.

We caught the cutest one on video. Lyla opens the door and says "Hello!" Then she hands out candy and says "I have a new baby...yes I did...she's right here, her name's Penny. My mom has her. Yes she does. I have a new sister....I have a new sister." It is seriously the sweetest and cutest. I'm so glad we caught it on camera!

Twelve Months

Penny had been such a great baby, that her turning one has felt so bittersweet. I just wish I could bottle her up and keep her little. Sure, I can always have another baby, but babies like Penny don't come around every day, and I feel like another could never compare. She is such a light to our family and to others. I feel like people notice her and comment on her, and it's partly because she is adorable, and partly I think she has a special countenance and demeanor about her.

she loves books

she doesn't seem very close to walking, although we did get her a walker for her birthday, and I was surprised by how immediately she picked that up.

She weights 22 pounds

She says "mama", "dada", "lyla" (all day long), "bath", "nigh night", "more", "hi"

She and Lyla love to giggle together, and it is my favorite thing to hear them playing and laughing from the other room

Just broke her 7th tooth

We love our Penny girl!
